‘Genealogical Gifts for Your Family’

On March 18, the president of the Fayette County Genealogical Society Sue Gilmore presented a program entitled “Genealogical Gifts for Your Family.”

Sue demonstrated to members of the society and their guests how to design and make pictorial family trees, historical family magnets, calendars, coffee mugs and collages. She also included shirts and sweatshirts of families which could include cherished pets. There were many ideas that could be used as gifts to mark the occasion of a special birthday or anniversary or for mementos of family events such as weddings and family reunions. Sue gave those present a list of references to help anyone interested in making any of the gifts she demonstrated.

The next meeting of the society for members and their guests will be its Annual Linage Dinner. This dinner is held in honor of those individuals who have been accepted into any of the three Linage Societies within the Fayette County Genealogical Society. Those societies include the First Families of Fayette County open to anyone proving an ancestor(s) residing in Fayette County by Dec. 31, 1820, and the Century Families of Fayette County open to anyone proving an ancestor(s) living in Fayette County by Dec. 31,1916.

The third society is the Civil War Society of Fayette County. This society is open to anyone proving an ancestor(s) served in the Civil War anytime between April 12, 1861 and April 18, 1865, either Union or Confederate and either lived in Fayette County or served out of Fayette County. Forms and rules for acceptance into these societies are available by contacting the society. The dinner this year will be held at the Pinkerton House, 605 S. North St., Washington C. H., on Monday May 20 with the social hour beginning at 6:30 p.m. and dinner being served by caterer Jason Gilmore at 7.

The honorees at this year’s dinner will be Kenneth Arnold for First Families of Fayette County and Civil War Families of Fayette County, and Clarabelle Jones Yellets and Maybelle Jones for Century Families of Fayette County.
