The last hurdle for the Menards zoning project has been cleared.

The Fayette County Commissioners met for the final time Monday regarding the zoning process for the Menards manufacturing and distribution plant. The motion to adopt the zoning change off State Route 41 was granted with a 3-0 acceptance via the commissioners. There were no community members present in opposition so the meeting lasted merely a few minutes.

Tony Anderson closed with, “It’s a long, arduous process and as we have been in discussion for a period of time, there are folks that are happy, and there are folks that are not happy. That’s the way it goes, but we followed the process to a T. The community has had every opportunity for input.”

Fayette County Rezoning Official Harold Skaggs was present at the hearing. He explained the process must take at least 90 days and was excited for the project’s approval.

The area for the new Menards facility will be the land between Parrott Station Road and Creamer Road. It extends from State Route 41 to the railroad. The proposal for the facility includes a concrete plant, truss plant and wood treatment plant. According to county officials, this facility will create 100-150 jobs.

Menards is a family-owned company with over 300 home improvement stores spread throughout 14 states: Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Wyoming.

More details about the project, including the time-frame, will be released at a later date.
