The Washington Garden Club met recently at the Fayette County Airport. The Nov. 3 meeting focused on reorganization goals and the election of club officers.

JoAnn Brady, president-elect, opened the noon meeting with prayer, remembrance of members who have passed away in the last year (Mary Hurtt and Priscilla Williams), and gave thanks for the bounty of food offered on the buffet table. After a brief recess for lunch and fellowship, the meeting resumed with a discussion on what the club’s vision for 2016 should be. A consensus was reached which involves a reaffirmation of the Washington Garden Club by-laws and purpose of organization in line with OAGC’s slogan: knowing, growing, showing, and caring. (OAGC, Ohio Association of Garden Clubs)

Officers elected for the coming year are as follows, president- JoAnn Brady, vice-president- Ruth Eakins, secretary- David Persinger, treasurer- Nancy Jo Esper. Discussions ensued concerning the various committees and chairmen needed for club operation and community commitments.

Nancy Jo Esper gave a brief show-and-tell demonstration on making a decorative arrangement using what is already available in our homes and yards. Employing a repurposed vase/glass vessel, Nancy Jo used dried Lotus flower seed pods, dried plumes of ornamental grass, silver spray painted twigs, a red bauble, and a battery powered string of holiday lights to make an attractive fall/holiday themed table decoration.

Nancy Jo and JoAnn also had a collection of photos and publicity albums from the past and everyone enjoyed reminiscing of “days gone by” and of past club activities. Members present were Nancy Jo and Tom Esper, David Persinger, JoAnn Brady, Ruth Eakins, and Winnie Gregory.
