The Well serves over 150 Thanksgiving meals

The Well at Sunnyside recently held its Thanksgiving dinner and has plans for two more meals to be served to the community in December.

The Well served about 150 meals, not including the volunteers who ate, on Tuesday evening at its annual Thanksgiving Dinner, according to volunteer coordinator and free store director Chiquita Nash. She said that from the time they began serving the meals to right before they closed, people were coming in for a hot meal.

“It went awesome,” Nash said. “The meal was just served to people coming off the street and to clients who have been with us for awhile. We would like to ask the community for their support on Saturday for our Toy Drive from 9 a.m. to noon. We would like items such as games, Barbies, body wash sets for teens, toiletry items and brushes. We also can accept gift cards that a volunteer will be able to take somewhere and buy additional toys. With an abundance of stuffed animals already, we are asking for other items, but all donations are appreciated. If you want to donate, simply pull up to the back alley on Saturday and one of our friendly elves will come to your car….no need to get out at all.”

The annual “Dinner and a Show,” which is The Well’s biggest fundraiser, will be held on Dec. 5 at South Side Church of Christ in Washington C.H. from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets for this event are available for $15 before the dinner and $20 at the door. This fundraiser will go to support all of the programs at the Well. Nash also announced a few of the silent auction items up for grabs. These include club level Bengals tickets for their game against the Ravens, an autographed baseball and card by Major League baseball player Travis Shaw, COSI tickets, baskets and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tickets.

“Women dancers from the First Church of God, Sister’s in Christ and a men’s quartet from Grace United Methodist Church will all be performing during the dinner,” Nash said. “The Well will also be working on the directory in January and anyone wanting to advertise in it just needs to contact me. Additionally, our shoe fundraiser is not over until December 9 and any shoes donated are greatly appreciated.”

Finally, on Tuesday, Dec. 22, the Well will be hosting the community for its annual Christmas dinner. Nash said that the meal is for anyone of any level of need. She said that even if it is just a little bit of help someone requires, she encourages them to come and take advantage of the services they offer.

“As always I want to thank the community for its support and I hope to see everyone at our upcoming events,” Nash said.
