Police investigating suspected arson at WCH home

Police are investigating a suspected arson that occurred early Wednesday at a Sycamore Street home in Washington C.H.

At approximately 3:50 a.m. Wednesday, a Washington C.H. Police Department officer was dispatched to the area of Sycamore Street near Second and Third streets on the report of a fire. The officer found that the rear of the home at 720 Sycamore St. was scorched and a small fire near the foundation of the residence was active, according to reports. Damage was done to the rear deck of the home, authorities said.

Police officers were able to extinguish the fire prior to the arrival of the Washington C.H. Fire Department. Evidence was collected by firefighters and was sent to the State Fire Marshal’s Office for analysis.

A resident who lives near 720 Sycamore St. made the report to the WPD. He said that he saw at least one person run from the scene, according to police.

“There are no suspects at this time,” said WPD Lt. Jon Long. “This is being treated as a suspected arson pending confirmation of results from the State Fire Marshal’s Office.”
