The Danville Road Bridge will be replaced toward the end of 2019 or in 2020, according to Fayette County Engineer Steve Luebbe.
Luebbe said it will be “a simple bridge replacement,” and that the new bridge will likely be wider and structurally different than the current bridge, but will be pretty similar to it overall.
Luebbe said the current bridge in Bloomingburg is “not in danger of falling in or anything,” but that it does have some structural issues, and “in this case there’s not any way to make easy repairs on the things that are wrong, so we’re choosing to replace it.”
The project will largely be funded by federal grants, but 5 percent of its costs will come from local money. The total cost of the project is expected to be about half-a-million dollars.
Right now, “we’re starting the design process so we’ll design it this winter and this spring,” according to Luebbe.
When construction does begin, Luebbe said the bridge will likely be closed for about two months. Because the bridge provides a popular route to Cargill, Luebbe said, “We’ll try not to do that during harvest.”
EP Ferris and ATC will help to develop plans along with the county engineer’s office. Once all of the design plans are put together into final construction drawings, the project will be opened to bids from contractors.
