Celebrating the dogs of our community

Sylvia Call shared a photo and story of Winnie and Arthur. Winnie is being trained to be Arthur’s service dog, who is on the autism spectrum. She is absolutely delightful, and has already had a huge positive impact on their family. If anyone notices them walking around town, feel free to come up and give Winnie some love—her main job as a service dog will be to provide steady sensory input (sitting across Arthur’s lap) while getting snuggles so her trainer has encouraged the family to have others approach and pet her often to reinforce that this is just part of her day.

To celebrate National Dog Week, the Record-Herald asked the community to share photos of themselves and the canine in their lives. Kip — a 2-year-old mini aussiedoodle — with his best friend forever Charlotte.

Sophie, a German bred long hair German Shepherd, and her owner John Nestor in memory of Dr. Gary Junk.

Ashley Roberts shared a photo of Hudson and Cole with their 3-year-old Doberman, Oakley.

Rachel Brust shared her story of Rosebud (Rosie). She’s named after a character in one of her son’s movies. He is 4-years-old and wanted a golden retriever so bad. We saw “Dior” at the Ross County Humane Society and decided to check her out….since she’s a yellow lab they brought her home. The vet says she’s only 4-5 but she looks much older when you get close to her. She is missing several teeth, and a chunk of her lip, she’s obese, and her trachea is damaged, so she sounds like a pig oinking when she gets worked up. All this just makes her such a unique pup. The shelter said they found her tied to a barn when she was brought in.

Kenzie Robinson with her dog Roxie. Roxie is almost a year old and “forever holds my heart, she will never know all she has done for me,” according to Kenzie.

This is Louie, a 2-and-a-half-year-old lemon and white Basset Hound. He’s always begging for food and attention according to his owner, Toni Dearth Copas.
