It is that time of year again….flu season is around the corner. It is time to start thinking about getting your flu shot.

Fayette County Public Health wants you to know that it is having a flu clinic Oct. 2 from 4-7 p.m. The flu shot protects against three or four influenza viruses that research indicates will be in this upcoming season.

Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every season, according to FCPH. Vaccination to prevent influenza is particularly important for people who are at risk of serious complications from influenza such as older adults, people with chronic health conditions and young children. Protecting yourself from the flu also protects the people around you who are more vulnerable to serious flu illness.

Vaccination helps protect women during pregnancy and their babies for up to six months after they are born, according to FCPH. Other studies have shown that vaccination reduces the risk of flu-related hospitalizations in older adults.

A variety of insurances can be billed, or if paying cash, the price is $25, and high dose for anyone 65 and over is $45. Anyone with questions should call the health department at 740-335-5910.
