Two Washington C.H. women have been indicted by a Fayette County grand jury for allegedly shoplifting from Kroger on May 22 and harming another citizen in the process.

Grace L. Cordell, 43, and Sierra L. Smith, 25, have each been charged with two counts of robbery and one count of theft. Both are being held in the Fayette County Jail on $10,000 bonds and are scheduled to go to trial in Fayette County Common Pleas Court on Sept. 2.

The shoplifting occurred on Friday, May 22 around 3 p.m. at the Kroger store, 548 Clinton Ave. in Washington C.H., according to reports. Two female suspects allegedly entered the store, filled a shopping cart with merchandise and fled the store with the shopping cart and merchandise without paying.

Before they left the store, a customer was struck and injured by the shopping cart during their hurried exit from the store, according to reports. The two suspects loaded the stolen merchandise into a vehicle and drove away, police said.

The ensuing investigation by the Washington C.H. Police Department resulted in the identification of Cordell and Smith as the two suspects. The case was taken to the Fayette County Prosecutor’s Office and was then presented to the grand jury. They were taken into custody last Tuesday, according to reports.
