Sixteen people met at the Commission on Aging for the bi-monthly meeting of the Fayette/Madison County Public Employee Retirees Inc. on July 25.

President Sylvia Hildreth began by asking everyone to stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance.

The speaker was David Painter from Ohio Senior Health Insurance Information Program (OSHIP). He reminded the members to follow their health insurance and drug insurance choices and when to make our choices. He also reminded the group that Ohio will get their new Medicare cards in October and gave each person holders for the cards because again they will be made of paper. He answered many questions and was appreciated by the group.

Jeanne Immell gave the secretary’s report. Cathy Littleton made the motion to accept the report as given. Marilee Peterson seconded. The report was accepted. Treasurer Connie Watson gave the treasurer’s report. There is $258.53 in the treasury, and 19 members. Ron Clay made a motion to accept the report as given. Patty Barton seconded. Motion carried.

In old business, Sylvia Schneider, Connie Watson, Marilee Peterson and Penny Johnson attended the district annual meeting and lunch at the OCSEA offices at Polaris Parkway.

In new business, Sylvia asked the group to keep the PERI annual meeting in mind for September. It will be announced in the PERI newsletter. We must send in our own reservations.

A good conversation was held concerning how to get more members. It is necessary to have a strong voice in any legislative or OPERS change.

The members present were Jeanne Immell, Marilee Peterson, Denna Morgan, Sylvia Schneider, Ruth Vance, Luella Puckett, Connie Watson, Brenda Smith, Jerome Smith, Patty Barton, Marcia Baird, Cathy Littleton, Ron Clay, guest Lynn Belcher, Sylvia Hildreth and Ron Burkhard.

The speaker for the next meeting will be Steve Toth, representative on the OPERS Board.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept. 26.
