MT students participate in state competition

Seven Miami Trace students — all members of Fayette County 4-H clubs — competed for the first time in the Ohio State Fair Poultry Judging Contest on Saturday.

The poultry judging contest tests students’ knowledge of meat and egg production, processing and marketing of chickens and turkeys, processed poultry products and egg quality.

The junior team (age 13 and below) — consisting of Drew Black, Connor Collins, Jenna Goddard and Jonah Goddard — placed second overall. Black’s individual awards consisted of fourth place live bird division, sixth place market poultry division, and fifth place overall individual.

Collins’ individual awards consisted of sixth place live bird division, seventh place market egg division, 10th place market poultry division, and seventh place overall individual. Jenna Goddard’s individual awards consisted of second place market egg division and sixth place overall individual.

The senior team (age 14 – 18) — consisting of Libby Aleshire, Bryce Bennett and Aubrey Schwartz — placed fourth overall. Aleshire’s individual awards consisted of third place overall live bird division and 10th place overall individual. Bennett’s individual awards consisted of fourth place live bird division, third place oral reasons and eighth place overall individual.
