Nineteen-year-old Timothy M. Rhodes II, of Mount Sterling, was the person killed in Saturday night’s two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 62 Northeast and Cook-Yankeetown Road in Madison Township.

At approximately 11:21 p.m., a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Rhodes, was heading west on Cook-Yankeetown Road and failed to stop for the posted stop sign at the intersection of U.S. 62 Northeast, according to Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth. The Malibu went into the path of a 2009 Dodge Ram, driven by Dennis J. Anschutz, 64, of Washington C.H., heading north on U.S. 62.

The vehicles collided in the intersection and both went off the northwest side, coming to rest in a cornfield. Rhodes was entrapped inside the vehicle and extricated by members of the Tri County Joint Fire District.

Shortly after, Rhodes was pronounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Coroner Dr. Dennis Mesker, according to Stanforth.

A passenger in Rhodes’ vehicle, identified as Shyanne K. Huffman, 23, of Washington C.H., was airlifted from the scene by Med-Flight to a Columbus-area hospital for medical treatment. Anschutz was transported from the scene by Fayette County EMS to Fayette County Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. Stanforth said the crash remains under investigation by members of the Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
