The Fayette County YMCA Tsunami swim team recently began practices in preparation for the South Eastern Ohio/West Virginia Swim League fall/winter season.

The SEOWV league is a year-around swim league that includes teams in Pickaway, Ross, Marion, and Pike counties, as well as Columbus, Delaware, and Grove City.

The team practices three days per week at the Fayette County Family YMCA pool. Under the direction of head coach Katie Kasburg, the team will compete in four home meets and five meets at other area YMCAs between Oct. 3 and Feb. 20. The team may also compete in some invitationals and will conclude the season at the league championship meet March 4-6.

The YMCA Tsunami Swim team is open to YMCA members ages 18 and under who can swim at least one lap of the pool. Practices are conducted from 5 to 6 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. YMCA swim teams follow the philosophy that swimmers of all abilities should have the opportunity to compete and that swimming is a vehicle to introduce youth to a sport that can be utilized to enhance health and wellness for their lifetime.

Thanks to the generosity of Janet Sollars the YMCA installed a Daktronics touchpad scoring system that the YMCA, Miami Trace and Washington Court House High School teams are able to utilize for swim meets. The system automatically records each swimmer’s time and place of finish and displays it on a scoreboard so fans can follow along.
