New projects planned for KAMP Dovetail will be discussed when the 15th annual SATH Radio-a-Thon is held Monday, Oct. 23.

SATH (Supplemental Assistance to the Handicapped) Executive Director Linda Allen said that SATH received $150,000 through Ohio’s 2017 Capital Budget Bill and that it plans to use the money to construct a new storage unit, nurse station, and laundry facilities, along with installing new washers and dryers, at SATH’s KAMP Dovetail Area at Rocky Fork State Park. Allen said plans are to break ground sometime after the beginning of the new year and that she hopes to have the new facilities ready in time for the camp held there each June.

Allen said SATH just recently signed an agreement to lease more land at the Dovetail area at Rocky Fork. She said that was needed for the storage unit.

The storage unit will be 40 feet by 60 feet or larger, Allen said.

“We’re pretty excited because right now we’re using five storage units and everyone’s barns and buildings,” Allen said. She added that with Dovetail equipment scattered over a five-county area, it takes about one week just to haul everything in each year.

Allen said the new facilities will be exclusively for KAMP Dovetail and will not be open to the public.

Held annually the third weekend in June, this past year Dovetail hosted 326 campers (including 66 that were day campers only) for five days and four nights. In addition, Allen said 395 Dovetail volunteers spent the entire day at camp, while about 300 other volunteers were part-time.

It takes about $75,000 each year to make the camp happen, Allen said, and that’s why she holds fundraisers like the radio-a-thon pretty much every month, and sometimes more.

SATH has a Halloween Hustle 5K Run and One Mile Fun Walk coming up on Oct. 28 at the Dovetail area, Turkey Bingo on Nov. 18 and Breakfast With Santa on Dec. 9.

The radio-a-thon will air live from 6-10 p.m. on C-103 AM and 99.5 FM from the radio station in West Union.

“We will be broadcasting live and accepting pledges for SATH and KAMP Dovetail,” Allen said. “Tune in to C-103 or 99.5 The Edge for information concerning the radio-a-thon, upcoming SATH events and the latest progress on KAMP. During the evening we will have parents and guests sharing what the SATH program has meant to their child.”

Anyone wanting to make a pledge prior to the radio-a-thon can call Allen at 937-366-6657 and those pledges will be read on the air the night of the radio-a-thon. Donors can also stop by the radio station and have their donation announced live, or they can make a pledge on the air by calling 1-800-326-9722 or 937-544-9722 during the event hours.

All proceeds from the radio-a-thon will benefit SATH and KAMP Dovetail.
