The cars will be on the line, the track will be cleared, the crowd will have chosen their favorites, the car owners are itching to go, the lights flash…

No, this is not the Brickyard 500. This is the Sonny Dewees Memorial Pine Wood Derby. The event will be held on Sunday, Sept. 24 in the back room of American Legion Post 25 with weigh-ins beginning at 5 p.m. All Cub Scouts are welcome to participate as well as any adults who have pinewood cars. If you would like to make a car for this year’s event, please call Scoutmaster Glenn Rankin at 740-948-2520. The entry fee is $5.

The Scouts will run their heats and the field is open to any adults who brought a car. There are several “grudge” matches scheduled as the final heats. According to Rankin, “It’s a fun afternoon. Even if you do not have a scout in your family, come on out and support the Fayette County Scouts.”
