The Fayette Humane Society recently announced it will join with NBC4/WCMH-TV to host NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations’ “Clear the Shelters” third-annual nationwide pet adoption drive on Saturday.

On this day, the Fayette Humane Society will offer low cost pet adoption fees as part of the nationwide Clear the Shelters initiative that seeks to help families find and adopt homeless pets. Since 2015, Clear the Shelters has resulted in more than 70,000 pet adoptions nationwide.

“We appreciate the effort of NBC4 to help shelters across the nation to find homes for all of the homeless animals during this annual special adoption drive,” said Brad Adams, outreach director at the Fayette Humane Society. “We also appreciate our local media like Record-Herald who shines the spotlight on an adoptable animal in their newspaper, every week.”

As of press time, the Fayette Humane Society reported that there are nearly 40 cats and kittens currently available for adoption at their downtown adoption center in Washington C.H.

“During last year’s Clear the Shelters events, we almost adopted every cat and kitten in our adoption center, leaving us with one or two. This allowed us to bring more homeless cats and kittens from the streets in Fayette County and help them find homes,” said Adams.

Adoption fees will be reduced to $20 for both cats and kittens this Saturday between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Humane Society’s Adoption Center is at 153 S. Main St. in Washington C.H. and visitors can use the entrance on East Street.

The Fayette Humane Society is a non-profit 501(c)(3), volunteer organization. They receive less than 2 percent of support from governmental organizations and therefore must rely on donations, grants and fundraising to carry out their mission. The Humane Society is the only organization in Fayette County able to respond to calls about abused and neglected and domestic animals, 24 hours per day, seven days per week.
