Firefighters rescued a man by pulling him out of his burning home early Thursday on East Paint Street in Washington C.H.

Jim Anderson, who was found unconscious inside the home, was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. His condition was unknown as of Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

Just before 3 a.m. Thursday, the Washington Fire Department received a call reporting a structure fire at 114 E. Paint St. with a trapped occupant. Once firefighters arrived, they found fire and smoke venting through the windows on the northeast side of the one-story home, according to reports.

One firefighter began extinguishing the fire while a two-member team searched for Anderson, who was the only occupant of the house.

“Two of our guys located him in a back bedroom,” said WFD Capt. Timothy Downing. “He was unconscious at the time, having been overcome by the smoke.”

The two firefighters were able to pull Anderson out of the house through a side door. Once outside, Anderson was transported by Fayette County Life Squad to Fayette County Memorial Hospital and from there was flown by medical helicopter to OSU Wexner Medical Center.

“When they got him out of the house he was barely breathing, but was still alive,” said Downing.

Firefighters arrived at 3:01 a.m., located Anderson at 3:08 a.m., and had him out of the house at 3:11 a.m., reports said.

Ten members of the Washington Fire Department worked to extinguish the blaze.

“We had it under control at about 3:20 a.m.,” Downing said. “The fire came from a middle room in the house. The cause is still under investigation.”
