Shannon Sever agreed to spend six months in prison after admitting to stealing items from a couple she was living with and selling the items to pay them for her share of rent.

Sever, 35, entered a guilty plea to theft, a felony of the fifth degree, June 20 in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas.

In addition to serving six months in prison, Sever was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $500 to the victims.

The victims reside on Delaware Street in Washington Court House and called the Washington C.H. Police Department June 14, 2016 to file a theft complaint.

The victim and his wife reported to the police that they had allowed Sever to live with them at their home for approximately four months. They eventually noticed that things from their home were missing when they went to look for an item and couldn’t find it. Upon checking around their garage and home, the couple noticed a lot of other items were missing, too. More than $2,500 worth of items were reported missing.

Included in the incident report: Xbox valued at $300, Ryobi tree trimmer valued at $400, McCulloch chain saw valued at $400, LG tablet valued at $150, Olympus digital camera valued at $600, Nikon D3300 camera with extra lens valued at $1,000. Other camera accessories were reported missing along with an assortment of Ryobi tools including a saw, drill, router and table.

The victim’s wife later noticed that some of her jewelry was missing, including necklaces with emerald and diamond insets.

According to the reports, the victim “threw” Sever out of the residence after realizing items were missing. The victim did report that they had insurance. The victims later found some of their items at local pawn shops and called the police department. The victims were able to recover a few of their items but many of the items could not be located.

Sever later wrote a voluntary statement to police during an interview. Sever said that she was a waitress and business had been slow, and she owed money for rent and past court costs and fines.

“I took miscellaneous items from the garage and pawned the items. I was not a smart person for biting the hand hand that feeds me I know. I am sorry for what I’ve done. I am wrong for stealing from him and his wife. I hope that maybe I can pay or help pay to get their stuff back,” wrote Sever in her statement.

Sever was indicted June 17, 2017 for the crime.
