After a 4-year-old boy was found Tuesday evening riding his bicycle unattended through Washington C.H., his mother was arrested for child endangering.

Lindsay Rae Campbell, 31, of 790 Linden Ave., is facing a fourth-degree felony charge. On Wednesday, she bonded out of the Fayette County Jail.

At 6:22 p.m. Tuesday, the Washington C.H. Police Department received a report about a child riding his bike in the middle of the roadway in the area of North North Street. A resident who saw the child aided officers in locating him on Gibbs Avenue, according to reports.

The boy was only able to provide his first name and was unable to provide any information concerning the whereabouts of his parents or their identities, police said.

Fayette County Children Services was contacted and approximately 90 minutes later, police received information that the child may live at 790 Linden Ave., according to reports. WPD Sgt. Jeff Funari made contact with Campbell and told her that her child had been under the care of the police department for the last hour-and-a-half.

Campbell reportedly told Funari that the boy’s 9-year-old sister was “supposed to be checking up on him while she was working in the backyard.”

“I advised her that it was unacceptable to not know where her 4 year old son was and that his 9 year old sister was not responsible for him,” Funari wrote in his report.

Campbell was taken into custody at the police department where she met with Ashley Ward of Children Services.

“While checking the defendant’s criminal history I learned that the defendant had been previously convicted of child endangering involving the same child,” Funari wrote.
