Summer a good time for the Farmers’ Market

0

While summer starts officially on June 21, it seems like Memorial Day marks the unofficial beginning of summer. School is out, or will soon be, the days are deliciously long, and having reliably cooler evenings is past. It is a time of barbecues, water play, finding cool treats.

It is also a fabulous time to stop by the Wednesday evening Fayette County Farmers’ Market, where you will find main menu items for any meal as well as snacks (human and pet) and special desserts. The market runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the TSC parking lot (1650 Columbus Ave.) in Washington C.H. This location provides easy access to vendors and parking. Credit/debit cards are accepted as are SNAP EBT cards —stop by the Jones Farm Fresh Produce for assistance.

Please note that the many vendors accept the Senior Farmers Market Coupons. These coupons will be distributed on Thursday, June 15 from 9-11 a.m. at the Fayette County Community Action Commission, 1400 US 22, Washington Court House.

Individuals at least 60 years old and meeting income guidelines may pick up $50 of farmers’ market coupons for fresh produce and honey on this date only. Questions may be directed to David Persinger, Fayette County Farmers’ Market at 740-606-3467.

The following vendors have indicated that they plan on selling this Wednesday, and other vendors may participate as well:

This and That (Mary Ford): J&P candles and tarts, garden and home crafts (goose dresses, coasters, mug rugs, aprons, OSU items, jewelry), baked goods (pineapple upside down cake, pineapple banana bread, peanut butter fudge)

Wildflower Farm (Elaine Anschutz): various baked goods and treats, culinary mixes, catnip, lavender, crafts, dog treats, info on FCDS.

Chilcote Farms (Bruce and Marlene Chilcote): honey, cookies, caramels, cakes

Jones Farm Fresh Produce (Jon and Taylor Jones): strawberries, eggs, chicken breast, wings, whole chickens, Powell sausage patties, sweet Italian links, breakfast links, pork chops and ground pork.
