The Washington Court House Fire Department (WFD) responded to a house fire on Sycamore Street Wednesday.

The WFD received an alarm and arrived at the home of Brittany Alsup, 212 Sycamore St., shortly before 12:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived they found the home on fire with smoke coming from the right and front sides of the structure, according to a report from the WFD. Additionally, fire could be seen coming from the right side of the home through a window on the first floor.

“(Firefighters) extinguished the fire by going through the front door that was open when the (fire department) arrived on scene,” the report said. “(Firefighters) made sure the fire was out and that (the fire) did not spread to any other part of the structure.”

The report said that the fire department had one of their investigators come out to the scene to look at the fire for a cause and origin. The WFD remained on the scene for about three hours following the initial call. No injuries were reported and the incident remains under investigation.

The Washington Police Department and Fayette County EMS assisted at the scene.
