Change is needed, says judicial candidate Susan Wollscheid.
Wollscheid is running as a Republican candidate in the Washington Court House Municipal Court judge race in the May primary. Wollscheid, a Fayette County attorney and public defender for the state of Ohio, says her focus for election is on bringing change to the county.
Wollscheid was born and raised in Fayette County and worked full-time at the family restaurant while studying for her undergraduate and law degrees. She has been a practicing attorney since 2010 and today she represents defendants in court, sits on the Civil Service Commission and is president of the Fayette County Bar Association.
“Change is something we need,” said Wollscheid in an interview March 20. Wollscheid said that the change she will focus on if she is elected as municipal court judge includes improving court efficiency and making sentencing consistent for defendants in court.
Addressing the drug epidemic problem by assessing employment and volunteer needs in the county is part of her desire to bring change to the county, work that she believes will be a benefit to different organizations and businesses within the community.
“The prime factor in my decision to run for judge is that our county is in some desperate need of change,” said Wollscheid.
With 34 days until the May 2 primary election, Wollscheid is going door-to-door and meeting local residents to talk about her election platform.
Also running for the municipal court judge position as a Republican is the current municipal court judge, Victor Pontious Jr.
Attempts have been made to contact Pontious about his election platform. Pontious has not been available for an interview with the Record-Herald.
The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a breakfast April 11 at 7:30 a.m. and will allow each candidate to give their introductions and speak for a minute.
