David A. DeJarnette Jr. was arraigned in court Tuesday on an indictment for felonious assault after a shooting Feb. 22 in Jeffersonville.

The 28-year-old Washington Court House resident appeared in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas on one charge of felonious assault, a second-degree felony, and one charge of having weapons under disability, a third-degree felony.

Authorities believe that DeJarnette, Jr. was the shooter at Summer Tree Apartments on North Main Street in Jeffersonville that injured one victim Feb. 22. A 911 dispatcher received a call from a resident in the apartment building who said he heard gunshots from an upstairs apartment.

Minutes later the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office communications center received a second 911 call from a man who said he had been shot and was driving himself to Fayette County Memorial Hospital.

Personnel from the Fayette County EMS responded to State Route 41 North and found the shooting victim, William N. Prigmore, 34, driving in the area of the Miami Trace Local Schools. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening injury.

Detectives with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office went to the Summer Tree Apartment building, 71 N. Main St., to investigate and collect evidence. DeJarnette was identified as the suspected shooter, but was not found at the scene of the incident.

Detectives served a search warrant inside the apartment where the shooting took place. The legal resident of that apartment, Ashley Martin, was in possession of drug-related items, according to the sheriff’s office. No charges on Martin have been filed as of Thursday.

DeJarnette was later located in Columbus and arrested on a warrant. He was extradited to the Fayette County Jail, where he is currently in custody with a $50,000 cash-only bond. DeJarnette’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 17 at 9 a.m.
