A woman was found dead along the side of a road in rural Madison County Thursday morning.

A passerby discovered the body about 7:38 a.m. in the 2800 block of State Route 323 SE in Range Township, about 8 miles west of Mount Sterling, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman has been identified as 26-year-old Kelsey Jean Maynard. Deputies said she resides with her parents one-half mile away from where she was found.

Maynard was fully clothed and no obvious signs of trauma or a struggle were detected, according to Sheriff Jim Sabin. She was last seen at home around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

Her parents said it is not unusual for her to walk in the area.

Upon receiving the call, deputies responded to the scene, along with medics from the Sterling Joint Ambulance District.

The deceased was examined by Madison County Coroner Dr. James Kaehr. The body was transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

A preliminary examination did not reveal any evidence of foul play, struggle or cause of death, Sabin announced late afternoon Thursday. Investigators are awaiting the results of additional testing, including toxicology, and continue to trace her activity since she was last seen Wednesday evening

The scene was processed by agents from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation.

Anyone with information concerning Maynard is requested to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 740-852-1332.
