Donations made from Lions Tailgate

It was another banner year for the “Beat Michigan Tailgate Party,” held on Friday, Nov. 25 at the Mahan Building, and jointly sponsored by the Jeffersonville and Washington Court House Lions Clubs.

Over $6,400 in profit was tallied, the second best total ever, and over 50 percent better than 2015.

Proceeds from the event were donated to six area food pantries, two community food projects, and Lions sight-saving projects. The pantries and projects receiving checks were Fayette County Food Pantry, Jeffersonville United Methodist Church, Jeffersonville Church of Christ, Bread of Life, New Holland United Methodist Church, Rose Avenue Food Pantry, and Weekend Backpack for both Miami Trace and Washington C.H. school systems.

The two Lions Clubs keep a small portion to aid Lions projects like Pilot Dogs, eye research, and Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank.

The 10th-annual Tailgate Party had 188 dinner tickets sold. Other revenue was generated from live and silent auctions, and a raffle for two OSU-UM tickets, 50-inch HD TV, Kindle Reader, and $200 cash. Numerous businesses and individual contributed to the event with donations and other support. WCH and Jeff Lions are truly grateful for the continuing support of this fun and Buckeye-spirited event and are pleased to be able to donate to so many worthwhile community entities.

Plans for the 2017 event are already under way with the Beat Michigan Tailgate Party scheduled for Friday, Nov. 24. Don’t be left out. Mark your calendars NOW!
