A 31-year-old Jeffersonville man will spend seven months in prison after he admitted to stealing oak cabinets out of a rental house in Washington Court House.

Joshua L. Roberts plead guilty to theft, a fifth-degree felony.

The Washington Court House Police Department received a call from a resident June 12 who said there were fresh hand prints on the outside of the neighbor’s window in the 700 block of Eastern Avenue.

A witness later called the police department and said that he had observed Roberts and another man loading cabinets out of the same house on Eastern Avenue onto a trailer being pulled by a truck.

Police later received information from the owner of the residence, who reported that the house was a rental property and that somebody had gone inside and taken out the cabinets and the counter tops from the kitchen. Drywall from inside the house was also reported as being damaged.

The oak cabinets and Formica counter top were valued at approximately $2,000 and there was an estimated $120 in damage to the drywall and a door.

A witness later reported to police that Roberts had ccme over and was “bragging” about stealing the cabinets from the rental house.

Roberts was indicted Aug. 5 on one count of burglary, a third-degree felony, and one count of theft, a fifth-degree felony.

During his sentencing hearing Nov. 30, Roberts was credited with 93 days of local jail time credit from time already served in the Fayette County Jail and was transported to the Corrections Reception Center in Orient, Ohio to commence serving his sentence.

According to court records, Roberts previously served an eight-month prison term that began in 2014 after being sentenced on charges of forgery and identity fraud.
