Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies and agents from the US 23 Major Crimes Task Force seized a substantial amount of heroin, crack cocaine and firearms early Wednesday morning following traffic stops on U.S. 35 Northwest.

Detectives with the Ross County Sheriff’s Office received information that narcotics were being transported in vehicles traveling on U.S. 35, according to Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth. During the course of the investigation, descriptions of the vehicles were obtained, and detectives and task force agents attempted to locate them.

Shortly after midnight, vehicles matching the descriptions provided earlier were located by detectives on U.S. 35 Northwest traveling at a high rate of speed. During separate traffic stops, the Ross County Sheriff’s Office K-9 officer conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicles, a 2007 Toyota Camry and a 2003 Ford Expedition, which resulted in a “positive indication for the presence of narcotics,” said Stanforth.

During a search of the Toyota Camry, heroin, crack cocaine, two handguns and other drug paraphernalia items and evidentiary items were discovered and seized. The driver of the Camry, identified as Jasmine Lee, 24, of Frankfort, was detained at the scene and later arrested. She’s charged with two counts of trafficking in drugs, both first-degree felonies.

The driver of the Ford Expedition, identified as Lindsey Miller, 21, of Chillicothe, was also detained pending further investigation and “the likely filing of criminal charges,” said Stanforth.

Both vehicles were impounded and held pending the ongoing investigation.

US 23 Major Crimes Task Force agents assisting in this investigation include detectives from the Fayette, Pickaway, Pike and Ross County sheriff’s offices.
