A Washington C.H. woman was flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus on Tuesday following an accident involving a motorcycle.

At approximately 12:26 p.m., Mary Smith, 46, was riding her 2003 Harley-Davidson Sportster westbound on U.S.Route 22 near Mt. Olive Road, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. At the same time, Kathy Kellough, 44, of Chillicothe, was reportedly driving her 2000 Hyundai Elantra eastbound on U.S. 22.

According to authorities, Kellough was attempting to pass two vehicles and while doing so, sideswiped Smith’s motorcycle. Smith’s motorcycle hit the driver’s side fender and window of Kellough’s vehicle. Smith was able to keep the motorcycle upright during the accident, but she suffered significant injuries to her left side, according to the FCSO.

Kellough’s vehicle came to stop in the eastbound lane of U.S. Route 22. She was the only occupant of the vehicle and was not injured.

MedFlight arrived at the scene and transported Smith to Grant Medical Center. Her condition was unknown on Tuesday afternoon.
