The Washington High School Class of 1961 held their 55th class reunion on Sept. 24 with three events: a golf outing at Quail Trail Country Club, an open house at the Red Brick School House on the Fayette County Fairgrounds, and the evening event was at the Crown Room, the banquet room for the Rusty Keg.

The golf outing had four participants, Ben Garringer, Carol Taylor, Earl Crosswhite and Pat Larick, husband of Cyrilla Sollars Larick, a class member of 1961.

The open house was attended by several classmates from 2 to 4 p.m. Snacks were served and everyone enjoyed visiting.

The main event was from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Crown Room. There were 26 members of the class that were able to attend. Many were from the Washington C.H and Ohio area but some were from quite a distance away.

The theme of the reunion was “Happy Days” and the decorations reflected the theme. The DVDs were shown from the 45th reunion and also the 50th reunion and everyone enjoyed reminiscing about the previous reunions. Organizers asked everyone to write down their favorite memory or memories from high school and then later in the evening the memories were read by Jack Witherspoon with lots of laughs.

There was a cake provided by Mike and Josie Chakeres that was decorated with a Blue Lion and there were several appetizers served.

The planning committee consisted of Cyrilla “Cy” Sollars Larick, chairman, Betty Clarke Tracewell, Josie and Mike Chakeres, Wes Wilson, Joe Giebelhouse, Earl Crosswhite, Jane Penrod Fox, Pastor Jack Witherspoon, Bobbie Oyer Smith, Marilyn Dougherty Reed and Barbara Cahall Self.

Dora Beucler Francis was not at the evening event, but did attend the open house.

A great time was had by all, it was wonderful to see the classmates that were able to be there, and the ones that could not come were missed. Hopefully, organizers said, they will be able to get together for the 60th in 2021.
