A 21-year-old Washington C.H. man arrested in January for failing to register a change of address as a sex offender was sentenced Monday in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas.

Kody L. Newton, of 725 Eastern Ave., was sentenced to one month of house arrest and five years of community control.

Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office were out in the county performing address verifications and found that Newton had an address registered for Linden Avenue, but was not living at the Linden Avenue residence.

Newton was arrested and charged with failure to register a change of address, a felony of the fourth degree.

“Address verification checks are performed by deputies unannounced and at periodic intervals to ensure compliance with the sex offender registry laws,” said Vernon Stanforth, Fayette County Sheriff.

Newton, who was charged for his offense when he was a minor, was required to register as a sex offender throughout adulthood.
