What’s happening at Carnegie Library?

Adults: On Thursday, March 31 at 5 p.m., a representative from PUCO (Public Utilities Commission of Ohio) will visit the library to present information to consumers about public utilities in Ohio and answer questions about your utility bills. Join us in the meeting room for this informative program! Coming up, the 2016 Classics Book Club will meet on Friday, May 6 at 4 p.m. to discuss The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway.

For kids: Saturday, March 19 at 12:30 p.m. will be the start-up and first meeting of the 2016 Carnegie Youth Garden Club! Children in grades 1-8 are invited to join this green group! We will begin by planting seeds for tomato plants for our library’s gardens and for your own at home! Meetings will be held throughout the spring and summer. Then, on Monday, March 21, at 4:30 p.m. children and tweens in grades 3-9 are invited to “Tech Toys: 3Doodler”! Participants will learn how to use a 3Doodler, a pen that writes in 3D! Draw a cube, a 3-dimensional t-Rex model; create like you never have before!

Also on Monday, March 21 at 4:30 p.m. is “Fabric Fashion Fun for Tweens”! Registration is required for this program geared toward children and tweens in grades three and up. We will fashion cool creations using new and up-cycled fabrics. Learn how to thread a needle, sew buttons, mend tears, and create fun projects.

Each week, join us at one of our library storytimes! Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., is Preschool Storytime for children 4 – 6 years old and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., is Books & Blocks for children 1 – 3 years old. Siblings are welcome at either session. This week, March 22 and 24 the theme is “I Can Smell Different Things!” These early literacy programs are fun and educational!

In Jeffersonville: Every Tuesday at 11 a.m., come listen to stories, play instruments, create crafts, socialize with other little friends at Toddler Time. March 22 will feature a “What’s in an Egg?” theme. On Wednesday, March 23 at 4 p.m. join us for “Color Therapy: Adult Coloring”! Who doesn’t need some peace and tranquility? We will provide coloring pages and pencils; this program is for all ages.

Coming up: This April, Carnegie Library is accepting new canned and boxed items for the Fayette County Food Bank. For every two items you donate to the Food Bank, the library will give you a $1 Carnegie Buck. Carnegie Bucks can be applied to five photo/computer copies, one fax page, $1 overdue movie fine, or a replacement Library Card.

April 10 – 16 is National Library Week! Carnegie Library in Washington Court House is celebrating by hosting a “Drop In and Read Day” on Tuesday, April 12 for children of all ages. Simply visit the children’s department anytime on this date, check out a book, and get a treat!

Also, drop off artwork for Southern State Community College’s National Library Week “Student Art Show” at Carnegie Library by Monday, April 11 at 6 p.m. or at the Fayette Campus of SSCC by Wednesday April 13. Everyone is invited to attend the show on Thursday, April 14 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Jeffersonville Library is celebrating too! Everyone can participate in the “Librarian’s Challenge.” Write an essay or create a poster for the challenge depicting your favorite author or book, favorite thing about the library, or why their book is overdue. The sky is the limit! We are curious to see what our patrons dream up! Join in on the fun! A chocolate surprise will be awarded to the winner!
