Join Carnegie Public Library at Art on the Square! On Saturday, Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., artists will create paintings to be displayed in historic downtown Washington Court House! Observe artists while they paint, visit with artisans, or watch a glassblowing demonstration by Neusole Glassworks of Cincinnati from 1 p.m.- 6 p.m. You don’t have to travel to Venice to observe this breathtaking process! The glass artists will discuss what they are doing as they are working, and answer questions during and after the demo. Join us for this very special event!

The “Scarecrow Book Sale” is just around the corner! Join AAUW and Carnegie Public Library to peruse a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction books, children’s books, and DVDs. All items are just 50 cents! “Preview Day” is also “Community Day!” On Wednesday, Sept. 18 from 2 p.m.-6 p.m., admission is free when you show us your library card! Admission without a library card is $2. The sale continues on Thursday, Sept. 19 and Friday, Sept. 20 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. is “Bargain Day” where a bag of books is just $1! For the first time, we are offering a special promotion to Fayette County residents and organizations who maintain a Little Free Library (LFL)! Show off your collection by tagging us on Facebook in a picture of your LFL, or email that picture to [email protected]. The library will give you $5 in book sale bucks to stock your LFL!

Registration for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL) is now open! Fayette County parents can stop by the library to complete a registration form. DPIL provides a free book each month to children from birth until age 5. Each book has been carefully selected by literacy specialists for age appropriate themes. If a child begins the program at birth, by the time they reach their 5th birthday, they will have a 60 book library of their own! DPIL is made possible by United Way of Fayette County and generous local donations. If you wish to make a donation, contact United Way of Fayette County.

In Washington Court House: Code Club and Storytime are on hiatus for August! But, children in grades 1-6 are invited to a “Salsa Party!” Create and enjoy delicious salsa, and tend the library garden on Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 11 a.m. Then, on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m., storytime children and their families are invited to a special storytime at The Starting Gate at 1351 Leesburg Ave.!
