What’s happening at Carnegie Library?

Library closing: On Friday, Nov. 11, Carnegie Public Library and Jeffersonville Library will be closed in observance of Veteran’s Day. The libraries will reopen at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Upcoming special events: On Thursday, Nov. 17 at 4 p.m., community members and library patrons are invited to join library staff and trustees for the dedication of the Poppy L. Girton Memorial. This will take place by the fireplace, on the second floor of the library. Then, on Thursday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Grace Methodist Church, join Carnegie Library in welcoming New York Times Bestselling author Margaret Peterson Haddix! During this visit, Ms. Haddix will discuss her books, take questions from attendees, and sign autographs. Books ‘N’ More from Wilmington will be selling Ms. Haddix’s books during this event.

Adults: It is Medicare Open Enrollment time! Join Cheryl Stockwell from Fayette County Commission on Aging for a Medicare Q&A session in the library meeting room on Monday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. Coming up, the Adult Book Club will meet to discuss A Circle of Quiet by Madeline L’Engle on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. This journal shares fruitful reflections on life and career prompted by the author’s visit to her personal place of retreat near her country home.

For all: The holidays are right around the corner! All bakers and Pinterest makers are invited to participate in the Carnegie Public Library “Gingerbread House Contest”. Submit your creation Nov. 28 – Dec. 3 in one of four categories: Adult, Teen, Family, or Child. Houses will be on display at the library: Winners will be selected by popular vote, and announced on Dec. 12. We can’t wait to see what you create!

In Washington Court House: The Carnegie Public Library will host a very special “Children’s Election Booth” for children ages 5-12. The voting begins on Tuesday, Nov. 1 and polls close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Join us for Story Time! Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., is Preschool Story Time for children 3 – 5 years old and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., is Books & Blocks for children 1 – 3 years old. Siblings are welcome at either session. Each week features a news theme: Nov. 1 and 3 is “Dia de los Muertos!” Also each Tuesday at 11 a.m., join us for “Books & Babies”! “Books & Babies” is a 15 minute session specifically created for our youngest patrons aged birth – 1 year old. Here, we look at board books, do finger plays, bounce on laps and explore. This early literacy time will introduce your baby to the library and the world of books! Now through December, you can join the Carnegie Fantasy Football League! Kids and teens, grades 1-12, pick your NFL players each week before Thursday and celebrate the following Monday. Prizes will be awarded weekly! “Sewing 101” with Jodi for kids and tweens, grades 3-8. The next session takes place Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 4:30 p.m. Registration is required. Coming up on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 11 a.m., Carnegie Public Library will host “Family Story Time” for children ages 0—5, and their families! The theme for this story time is “Thankfulness.” Our first monthly family story time will include books and activities celebrating gratitude.

In Jeffersonville: Every Tuesday at 11 a.m., come listen to stories, play instruments, create crafts, and socialize with other little friends at Toddler Time. Each week features a new theme! Tuesday, Nov. 1 is “Stop & Go!” Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 4 p.m. children ages 8 and up can come make a “Snowman Craft” and then, on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 4:30 p.m., all ages are invited to “Turkey Bingo!”
