The September meeting will be held Monday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. in the downstairs meeting room of the Fayette County Economic Development Building at 101 E. East St. in Washington Court House. The program for the evening will be our annual “Show and Tell.” Members and guests are asked to bring and share a family memento or heirloom, keepsake, family story or history, or community history.

On Monday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m., the Society will be meeting once again in the Fayette County Economic Development Building for its annual and ongoing DNA studies with DNA Genealogist Kelli Bergheimer from Powell, Ohio.

On Saturday, Oct. 22, the Society will conduct a Lineage Workshop in the Genealogy Department upstairs in the Carnegie Library at 127 S. North St., Washington Court House, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Lineage Committee will assist members, or any persons interested in applying for any of the Society’s three lineage societies with forms and research.

The three lineage societies available within the Fayette County Genealogical Society are First Families of Fayette County open to individuals who can prove a direct ancestor(s) resided in Fayette County by Dec. 31, 1820. The Century Families of Fayette County is open to individuals who can prove a direct ancestor(s) lived in Fayette County a hundred years ago. The Civil War Families of Fayette County is open to individuals who can prove an ancestor(s) served in the Civil War, the Union or Confederacy, who lived in or served out Fayette County between April 12, 1861, and April 18, 1865.

Ancestors may consist of soldiers, squirrel hunters, spies, and those documented in civilian service and females who served in some capacity such as nurse are eligible. You may contact the lineage chair, Cathy Massie White, for forms and rules or obtain them at the workshop.
