On Dec. 20, Fayette County Genealogical Society members met at the Bereman-Dahl House in Washington Court House with the social hour at 6 p.m. and the dinner at 6:30 p.m., catered by Jason Gilmore.

The Bereman-Dahl House was built in 1859 by Judge Joel Bereman and contains a mural by the famous artist Archibald Willard, which was admired by those who attended. Party games were enjoyed after dinner. Our Lineage inductees are usually honored at our Annual Lineage Dinner in May, but due the pandemic we have had to postpone the inductions for the last two years.

Therefore, we did inductions at our holiday dinner. Robert Grim was honored for proving his ancestors, Raymond Morgan Grim, William F. Grim, George W. Grim, Cora Belle Truitt, Ella Jane Rodgers, Alexander Grim, and Martha Jane Morgan, for Century Families of Fayette County. To be eligible for Century Families of Fayette County you must prove your ancestor(s) lived in Fayette County by Dec. 31, 1916.

Robert Grim was also honored for proving his ancestor, William F. Grim, for Civil War Families of Fayette County. To be eligible for Civil War Families of Fayette County, your ancestor(s) must have served in the Civil War any time between April 12, 1861, and April 18, 1865, either Union or Confederate, and either lived in Fayette County or served out of Fayette County.

You may also prove your ancestor(s) for one other Lineage Society, and that is First Families of Fayette County. Your ancestor(s) must have resided in Fayette County by Dec. 31, 1820.

The other inductees of the past two years will be honored at the May Lineage Dinner this year along with any new inductees. Those to be honored so far this May are Jack Webb and Senath Rankin for First Families of Fayette County, Bryan Roberts, Graham Roberts, and Senath Rankin for Civil War Families of Fayette County, and Bryan Roberts, Graham Roberts, and Kitturah Westenhouser for Century Families.

Anyone interested in any of these Lineage Societies can obtain the forms by contacting Lineage Chair Cathy Massie White at 740-333-7227 or [email protected]

Paul LaRue will again open our new season with our first meeting of 2022 on March 21. His program for the evening will be “Ohio Emancipation Commemoration.” Paul is a retired Washington Court House City Schools social studies teacher and belongs to history organizations, which include the Ohio WWI Centennial Committee. He has been the recipient of several national teaching awards and is a member of State Board of Education. His presentations are always very informative and well-received.

The meeting on Monday, March 21 will be held at 7 p.m. in the downstairs room of the Fayette County Economic Building at 101 E. East St. in Washington Court House. You will need to enter through the side doors from the parking lot. The public is always welcome to our meetings.

For information concerning this meeting, Society membership, membership in any of our Lineage Societies, or research please contact Cathy Massie White (Lineage Chair) at 740-333-7227 or [email protected], Sue Gilmore (President) at 614-864-9609 or [email protected] , or Peggy Lester (Research Chair) at 740-495-5720 or [email protected]
