Washington Garden Club holds first meeting of summer

The first meeting of the summer for the Washington Garden Club was held recently at the Rusty Keg Restaurant for lunch. Winnie Gregory, Lee Reno, Joan Rodgers, Sherry DeHass and Linda Warfield attended. The ladies answered roll call with their favorite vacation spots.

Linda reported to the members that they received a thank you card for JoAnn Brady’s funeral. All of the ladies’ friendship is very important to the group.

Winnie called the business meeting to order for the day. She reported and collected money for the Sunshine Fund. Linda reported on the club treasury. The raffle held to make funds, a big filled with gardening tools and reading books. The second raffle was a bird house and a potted house plant. Two members of the Hillsboro Garden Club won each one.

Also, Region 16 held a raffle for two nights Bed and Breakfast at Deer Creek State Park Lodge. The winner was Terry Russell, of West Jefferson, Ohio. The money collected for this will purchase more new Christmas trees for the 2019 season. Regions 9 and 16 will work on this project. The year 2019 will be the sixth for decorating. Decorations will be on display Nov. 13-Jan. 6, 2020.

The garden club will attend an annual event, the Ohio Association Garden Clubs, the Convention. This year it will be held at the Roberts Conference Center in Wilmington. The dates are July 18, 19 and 20. The group will be viewing a beautiful flower show, will shop with vendors, watch educated programs, and attend hands-on workshops. The members will also be receiving surprise awards. This is a great time to meet new friends and visit old friends.

The next meeting will be July 2 at the home of Linda Warfield for lunch and business.

The garden club is looking for new members — you and a friend can join together and learn all about gardening and nature in your yards. They also have an educational program to become a flower arranger or an accredited state certified judge of Ohio. If you are interested, please call Linda at 937-675-9029. The meeting is on the first Tuesday of the month.
