Descendants of Harry and Rena Funk Minshall and Rena’s parents, John Milton and Judith Smith Funk, held their family get-together on Saturday, July 28 at the New Holland Community Center. A potluck lunch was enjoyed by those who attended.
Attending this year were Danny and Sue Gilmore from Reynoldsburg; Elinor Wright, Janie Kay Castiglione and Patty Greene from Springfield; Sarah Shortreed from Groveport; Steve Bryant from Galloway; Harry and Helen Lautenschlager from Belle Center; John, LaRisa, John and Jesse Bryant from Washington C.H.; Ronette Dickey, Raegan Dickey and Jorja Showalter from Clarksburg; Linda Flack from Gatlinburg, TN; Bob and Jeanie Minshall, Mindy Leisure, Kyler and Jaden Marcum and Silas McClure from Jeffersonville; Mary Rowland, Carl Gene Minshall and Larry Funk from New Holland; Linda Smith from Circleville; and Marilyn Hettinger from Adelphi. Linda Funk traveled the farthest.
Everyone told stories of their childhood playing with cousins. Lots of pictures were taken, including a group photo and a picture of the 10 first cousins who were there.
Sue had written short histories of the Thomas Minshall Family, who came from Cheshire, England to Philadelphia, Pa., in 1682 with William Penn, and the Frederick Funk Family, who came from Palantine, Germany to Pennsylvania in 1792. Both families suffered tragedies on their journeys to America. Thomas and Margaret Heacock Minshall’s infant daughter Rebecca died in sea (drowned) on the voyage. Anna Funk died in childbirth at sea. Frederick and sons Frederick II (age 6 and our ancestor) and Adam Funk (age 7 weeks) landed in Philadelphia.
