The Fayette Garden Club took advantage of summer weather by having their summer meetings in country settings.

The July meeting was at member Barbara Sams’ country home. President Marge Clifford welcomed everyone, and then read a poem entitled, “Better Off.” Pam Rhoads gave the secretary’s report and Debbie Carr gave the treasurer’s report.

Linda Warfield reported on the OAGC State Convention. The remainder of the business meeting was spent making plans for the upcoming Region 16 Garden Club meeting to be held on Oct. 16 at the fairground’s Fine Arts building. The Washington Garden Club will also assist with that event.

Mr. Sams led a tour of the various areas of their home. Linda Morgan gave advice on raising water lilies. She brought one of her lilies which was later placed in the Sams’ backyard. The group then enjoyed refreshments served on the lanai – the open sided room overlooking their yard.

Mary Estle and co-hostesses Connie and Susie Meriweather welcomed members to the Estle cottage at Cedarhurst for the August meeting and annual picnic. After the picnic was enjoyed, Pam Rhoads led the business meeting. The roll call was answered by naming a favorite summer flower. The secretary and treasurer’s report were given and annual dues were collected. The main topic of business was the regional meeting to be held in October.

Connie Meriweather gave a demonstration of flower arranging using various sizes and colors of zinnias from her garden. As Connie arranged the flowers, her daughter Susie presented many facts about zinnias and their care. The beautiful basket of flowers was then presented to the hostess Mary Estle.

Club members will travel to Jamestown to the home of Linda Warfield for their September meeting.
