Fayette Garden Club celebrates 96th anniversary

On Friday, May 11, members and guests of the Fayette Garden Club met at the Temple Street home of caterer, Jason Gilmore, to celebrate their 96th anniversary.

President Marge Clifford welcomed everyone before opening a short business meeting. Roll call was answered by naming a favorite poem. This was followed by the reading of the minutes from the April meeting. Pat Parsons made the motion to accept the minutes seconded by Julia Hidy. Motion carried.

Secretary Pam Rhoads also read a card from Connie Meriweather thanking the ladies for her birthday cake and cards.

Treasurer Debbie Carr gave her report as well as the total we collected at the last meeting for the cemetery fund. Linda Warfield made the motion to accept the report, and Jodi Kirkpatrick seconded it. Motion carried.

A short report about the regional meeting held in Hillsboro was given. Marge reported that we made $87 at our sales table. Marge also reported we received a letter from the Master Gardeners asking if we would like to sponsor a flower pot in the downtown area again this year. Pam Rhoads made a motion to sponsor one seconded by Linda Morgan. Motion carried.

Linda Warfield announced that on June 26, during the OAGC State Convention, they will be bringing groups to the area to tour local gardens and the Washington Cemetery.

Mary Estle led us in prayer as we adjourned to the dining room for our luncheon.

Following an enjoyable meal, Mary Estle presented a stimulating program on the use of flowers in music and poetry. Of course, we had to sing every song that had the name of a flower in it.

As we left Marge gave each lady a favor of assorted candies, and they also received a pansy.

Those in attendance were: Debbie Carr, Marge Clifford, Mary Jane Esselburne, Mary Estle, Julia Hidy, Jodi Kirk, Joanne Montgomery, Linda Morgan, Pat Parsons, Pam Rhoads, Jean Smith, Linda Warfield, and guests Sandy Kelley, Connie Swayne and Sharon Willett.
