Fayette County Memorial Hospital has begun construction on a new Women’s Wellness Center, scheduled to open in October 2015, located on the first floor in Medical Arts Building 2, Suite 110.

The FCMH Foundation recently purchased a digital mammography machine to be featured in the Women’s Wellness Center that was made possible thanks to the generosity of many individuals in the community, including local civic groups and businesses.

The FCMH Foundation board has been working diligently in securing donations, according to FCMH officials, as well as personally contributing to make the Women’s Center campaign a success.

“This is a time to celebrate our new journey as it reaches for even greater heights,” said Shirley Pettit, FCMH Foundation board member.

The Foundation is continually seeking donations to help support the Women’s Wellness Center project and encourages members of the community to donate and to ask their friends and family to also support this campaign by matching this donation.

The Women’s Wellness Center’s mission is to elevate the wellness of women in the community by providing individually focused optimal care, education, and support. The vision is to provide leadership in women’s health needs by offering compassionate, coordinated, premier medical care, and to foster hope, healing, and recovery.

In addition to the digital mammography unit recently purchased, other services will include a dexa scan (bone density), and in time, an ultrasound unit. The center will have several women’s support groups, a mindful meditation practice, and a Pampering PinkStyle with a Partner in Pink Room sponsored by Tanger Outlets.

Dr. Cynthia Morris is a board certified gynecologist specializing in women’s health, and will be available full-time when the wellness center opens. She will also serve as the medical director for the center. Morris’ practice includes, but is not limited to, routine gynecological and breast exams, management of irregular or heavy periods, abnormal pap smears, mammograms, and pelvic pain and menopausal issues.

Morris holds a specialized certification as a menopause practitioner and is able to provide focused care for women ages 15 years and older.

Dr. Michael Barrows, who is a full-time radiologist at FCMH, will also be part of the care team at the Women’s Wellness Center. He is an ABR Board Certified Radiologist from The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Barrows brings 16 years of experience in diagnostic imaging and image guided procedures, focusing on breast imaging.

FCMH and its Foundation are dedicated to the health and wellness of the community and will continue its journey to support those in it by providing compassionate, focused care within Fayette County, officials said.

“This is a huge impact on the community,” Chelsie Hornsby, director of marketing and Foundation at FCMH said. “Women will no longer have to travel outside of Fayette County for a digital mammogram, because it will now be available right here at FCMH. The Foundation recently received a generous anonymous donation of $10,000, and that was kindly matched by Dr. Gwen Roesel.”
