Teletherapy now an option for isolated senior citizens

Summer is in full swing and so are people’s emotions. With so much going on in the world today – COVID, riots, fear of the unknown – people are experiencing even more issues with their mental health.

Senior Life Solutions is an emotional well-being program that is a valuable component of Fayette County Memorial Hospital and the community, especially during these difficult times when dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. The program serves older adults, typically 65 years and older, who are struggling emotionally for several reasons; COVID-19 concerns, world issues, loss of a loved one, isolation, lifestyle changes, diminishing physical and mental abilities, and other life transitions.

“As an intensive outpatient program patients receive group and individual therapy, family support, and education. With COVID-19 precautions in place, services have been expanded to offer teletherapy to individuals living within a 50-mile radius of the hospital allowing us to reach even more seniors,” said program director Angie Mellott.

In-house therapy has resumed and, in combination with teletherapy, has formed a combined hybrid model to serve seniors who want to return to a group setting and those who want to experience it from the security of their homes.

“It is our goal to empower the seniors in our community and surrounding areas to live out their lives as independently as possible and to help improve their quality of life,” said Mellott.

Anyone can refer a senior to the program and can do so by calling Senior Life Solutions at 740-333-2226.
