Fayette County Public Health recently released the following restaurant inspections:

January 22

Mugs & Jugs Draft House, 1309 US 35 SE. Follow up inspection. Violations/ comments: the ice machine is now clean. Thank you.

Kentucky Fried Chicken, 342 W. Court St. Follow-up. Violations/ comments: the food containers are clean now however, they were still found stored stacked while wet. After cleaning and sanitizing, equipment must be air dried. A few food containers were found cracked. Food contact surfaces must be free of cracks, smooth and easily cleanable. The manager discarded the containers during the inspection.

January 21

Fayette Memorial Hospital, 1430 Columbus Ave. Standard and Critical Control Point (FSO) inspections. Violations/ comments: a few food containers were found stored stacked while wet. After cleaning and sanitizing, equipment and utensils must be air dried. A few food containers lids were found cracked. Food contact surfaces must be free of cracks, smooth and easily cleanable. The lids were discarded during the inspection. The dry food cabinets where the sugar is stored in kitchen area were found with food residue on the shelves. Nonfood contact surfaces must be cleaned at a frequency necessary to prevent soil accumulation. Knowledge and responsibility: the person in charge displayed good knowledge of critical control points and is certified in food safety. One critical violation was present and corrected during the inspection.

Rachel’s House Catering, 3634 State Route 41 NW. Standard and Critical Control Point (FSO) inspections. Violations/ comments: all temperatures were within the safe zone. The overall cleanliness of the facility is great. No violations found during the inspection. Knowledge and responsibility: the person in charge is certified in food safety and is highly knowledgeable about the critical control points. No violations were present. Thank you and keep up the good work!

January 17

Pizza Hut #35537, 409 S Elm St. Follow-up inspection. Violations/ comments: the food containers observed are now clean. The microwave is also now clean and most of the ice inside freezer has been removed. The light intensity inside of the walk-in freezer is now at least 20 foot candles.

January 16

Mugs and Jugs Draft House, 1309 US 35 SE. Standard inspection. Violations/ comments: an employee’s cell phone found lying on the cutting board located on the sandwich cooler. Personal items must be stored separate from food preparation to prevent contamination. The phone was removed during the inspection and management was notified. Duct tape found on the refrigerator drawer located in main kitchen area. Non-food contact surfaces must be smooth and easily cleanable. The following areas were found with soil accumulation: ice machine, microwave, utensil shelves in storage room and good equipment shelves in main kitchen area. Also, the hood was found with grease build-up. Food and non-food contact surfaces must be cleaned to sight and touch at a frequency necessary to prevent soil accumulation. No hand-washing signs provided at the hand-sinks inside the restrooms. All hand-sinks used by food employees must have a hand-washing sign.

January 15

Long John Silvers #70042, 230 S Elm St. Standard inspection. Violations/ comments: the counter located near service window was found with food residue. Also, the kitchen walls were found with soil accumulation. The soap dispenser inside of the men’s restroom was not working. According to the manager, the batteries were taken out. A staff member was sent to get batteries and hand-soap immediately.

Pizza Hut #35537, 409 South Elm St. Standard inspection. Violations/ comments: several food containers were found with food residue and stored stacked while wet. These containers were rewashed during inspection. Food contact surfaces must be clean to sight and touch and air dried to prevent contamination. The walls in the restroom were found with soil accumulation. Also, other areas were found with soil accumulation: under the soda machine area, ceiling vents, hood vents, utensils, shelves and microwave. The facility must be cleaned as often as necessary to keep cleaned. Ice accumulation found on the walls and floor of the walk-in freezer. The door was also covered in ice. Also, the light is not working inside of the walk-in freezer. The light intensity should be at least ten-foot candles in walk-in coolers for proper cleaning and easy visibility. All equipment must be maintained in a state of good repair.

January 14

McDonald’s, 1401 Leesburg Ave. Standard and Critical Control Point (FSO) inspections. Violations/ comments: the following areas were found with soil accumulation: the cabinets located in dining area under soda machine, storage room floor, freezer, walk-in floor and storage drawers unit where the salad bowls are being stored. Non-food contact surfaces must be cleaned at a frequency necessary to prevent soil accumulations. The hand-wash sink inside of the women’s restroom does not run water for at least 15 seconds before reactivating faucet. The back-flow pump located in the storage room is leaking. The milk cooler is still leaking, the reach in freezer is still out of order, and the walk-in freezer door is still accumulating ice around the seal. All equipment must be maintained in good repair. Knowledge and responsibility: the person in charge is trained in food safety and no critical violations were present. Thank you.
