Did you know that there are over 3 million people in the United States living with chronic hepatitis C ? The problem is that 75 percent of those people do not know they have it.

Hepatitis C can affect anyone and one can live for decades without any symptoms or knowing that they have the disease. If you are born between 1945 and 1965, it is highly recommended that you get tested. Remember those 75 percent who have it do not know they have it or how they got it.

Hepatitis C is a serious liver disease that can lead to severe liver damage and or liver failure and is also the leading cause of liver cancer. Testing is the only way to know if you have this virus or not. So Fayette County Public Health is offering free Hepatitis C testing Wednesday, April 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A Disease Intervention Specialist from Portsmouth will be there for the free testing. Results will be made available that day and referrals given as needed. Please call 740-335-5910 to make your appointment for April 10. It is important to know if you have this virus or not – it could save your life.
