Country Cooking with Lou Ann: Celebration Brussels

0

Hello! I have always loved my veggies. I like them plain, and I like to dress them up a bit sometimes.

I happened to run across this recipe in an old “Taste of Home” magazine and thought I would give it a try. It was instant love.

The touch of sweet maple with a kick of vinegar really makes this dish. The bacon just adds the right amount of smokey flavor to it. It became one of my favorite dishes.

Celebration Brussels

-2 lbs. fresh Brussel sprouts, cleaned and cut in half

-1/3 cup vinegar

-1/4 cup maple syrup (I use sugar free maple syrup)

-1 teaspoon salt

-1/2 teaspoon pepper

-2 large apples, chopped

-1 jar Hormel bacon bits (3 oz)

-(optional) 1/3 cup cranberries

First, clean Brussel sprouts and cut in half, add chopped apples and optional cranberries—stir gently.

Second, mix vinegar, maple syrup, salt, pepper and bacon bits. Then pour mixture over the Brussel sprouts and stir gently.

Last, place in covered baking dish and bake for 45 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Enjoy!
