A large percentage of the Bloomingburg Presbyterian Church membership gathered in the Bloomingburg cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 27 to honor their original pastor, Rev. William Dickey.
Reverend Dickey served as the pastor from 1817 to 1857.
After discovering that Dickey’s monument had fallen into disrepair over the many years, members collaborated with former Bloomingburg resident, Mike Ferguson. Besides doing work in the Bloomingburg Cemetery, Ferguson has been trained in the proper monument restoration process. Upon completion of Ferguson’s painstaking effort, members decided to gather in the cemetery at the site of the monument as a show of appreciation of Ferguson for his commitment and achievement.
Earlier in the month, on Sunday, Sept. 17, the Bloomingburg Presbyterian congregation rededicated their 200-year-old church. Many members viewed this gathering in the cemetery as a fitting conclusion to their recent celebration of their church and its place in history.
