Washington Blue Lion senior Kyler Mount competed in the Division II District golf tournament Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Crown Hill Golf Club in Williamsport.
Mount shot an 86, placing in a three-way tie for 21st place.
“Kyler hit the ball great,” Washington coach Shannon Bartruff said. “He just missed a few putts he normally makes and got a few bad breaks, on his birthday of all days.
“Kyler has had an amazing Blue Lion Golf career,” Bartruff said.
Mount earned four varsity letters and was three times a First Team, All-SCOL competitor.
He played on one Sectional championship team, he was a four-time District qualifier and a member of a District championship team and was a member of the team that went to State when he was a freshman.
“Griffin Shaw played great all year for us and exceeded my expectations and also earned First Team, All-SCOL honors,” Bartruff said. “I’d just like to thank them for everything they gave BLG.”
Piketon won the District championship with a score of 324. Senior Steven Zimmerman was the District medalist with a 73.
New Lexington was second with a 326. Those teams advance to the State tournament.
A pair of sophomores, Heath Knight of Sheridan (76) and Jacob Calvin of Unioto (77) advanced to State as individuals.
McClain sophomore Trevor Newkirk finished in a four-way tie for 24th place with a score of 87.
The team from Sheridan was third with a 330.
Waverly was fourth with a 338 and Unioto placed fifth with a 341.
Fairfield Union was sixth with a 349, Gallia Academy was seventh with a 349 (the fifth man’s score was the tiebreaker, 90 to 93).
Zane Trace finished eighth with a 369, Portsmouth West was ninth with a 380 and Portsmouth was 10th with a 393.
Other schools with individual golfers competing were: Logan Elm, Westfall, Rock Hill, Fairland, South Point, Ironton and Meigs.
