On Tuesday, Shawn Whitt from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, and Chief Tim Downing from the Washington C.H. Fire Department spoke to the Washington Court House Rotary Club about the Home Safety Patrol Program, Sound Off.
This program is offered to students in grades two and three in all school districts in Fayette County. It is a three-day program with homework, that teaches students and staff about fire safety. It also allows the fire department the ability to track homes within Fayette County that are not equipped with smoke detectors.
Before becoming a Fire Safety Educator 2, Whitt served as a volunteer firefighter before becoming a paid firefighter, and later promoted to captain. As a fire safety educator, Whitt has presented about fire safety to schools, community groups, senior facilities and housing projects, among many others.
