St. Colman to hold 10th anniversary concert

WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE — This Sunday, April 23 at 3 p.m., St. Colman Catholic Church will hold a concert that is open to the public. The concert is titled “The King of Instruments – a personal journey with royalty!”

St. Colman is located at 219 S. North St. in Washington Court House

The concert, the last of the 2022-23 “Concerts in a Country Church” series, will be in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the first public concert of the series which was held April 14, 2013.

The concert series began after the church obtained its new organ in February of that year. Concerts have been held yearly (except for the two-year COVID-recess) and have included the organ, brass, woodwinds, strings, percussion, multiple choirs and many different soloists.

This particular concert will focus on the organ itself and its music.

The performer and music director at the church, Craig Jaynes, said, “I’m not quite sure why we’ve not a done a program about the organ itself and our instrument, in particular, before. It’s such an outstanding musical vehicle and deserves to be better known, but most people are quite unfamiliar with the organ and it’s tonal resources and why it sounds the way it does. So, this will be a learning opportunity, I hope, as well as an entertaining one. We will be able to do some things that we would normally not do on a typical Sunday morning.”

Jaynes has been the music director at St. Colman Catholic Church since July of 2005. Tickets are not required, but a free-will offering of $10 is suggested. There is ample public parking on the streets and in lots around the church.
