Blue Lions allow just one hit, defeat Jackson 4-2

It was a battle of the two remaining undefeated teams in the Frontier Athletic Conference as the Washington Blue Lions hosted the Jackson Ironmen on Friday, April 14.

Washington came into the game at 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the FAC, while Jackson was 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the FAC.

Senior Titus Lotz got the start for the Blue Lions on the mound. After a rough first inning, Washington found themselves down 2-0.

Lotz would walk the first batter and hit the second batter, putting two runners on with no outs. The next batter would lay down a bunt, and both runners would score due to an error on the play. The next batter was retired, followed by another hit batsman. Lotz was able to get the next two batters to pop out to end the inning.

The Washington defense was locked in from that point forward, as the Ironmen would only record a single hit throughout the duration of the game.

Washington got their first runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning. After the first two batters were retired, junior John Wall hit a single up the middle to record the first Blue Lion hit of the game. Wall would successfully steal second on the first pitch. Four pitches later, Lotz would draw a walk to put two runners on for Washington. A.J. Dallmayer came to the plate next. With an 0-2 count, Dallmayer laced a triple to right field to clear the bases and tie the game at 2-2. Jonah Waters would follow that up with a line drive single to left field to score Dallmayer and give the Blue Lions the lead. The next batter would fly out to end the inning.

Washington would score again in the botttom of the fourth inning when Gavin Coffman would single and later score on a passed ball. This would give the Blue Lions a 4-2 lead which would ultimately be the final score in the contest.

Lotz would pitch six of the seven innings for Washington, allowing two runs (none earned) on one hit, with three walks and nine strikeouts.

Dallmayer would come on to close, working one hit with no hits, one walk, and one strikeout.

Ramey Wyant started and took the loss for the Ironmen. He pitched three and one-third innings, allowing five hits, four runs (all earned), with two walks and five strikeouts.

Zander Ervin pitched the final two and two-thirds innings for Jackson, allowing just one hit, walking three, and striking out one.

Offensively for Washington, Dallmayer led the team going 1 for 3 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored.

Waters was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored.

Wall was 1 for 2 with two walks and a run scored.

Lotz drew three walks at the plate for Washington.

Tanner Lemaster was 1 for 3 at the plate.

Coffman was 1 for 3 with a run scored.

Miller was 1 for 3 at the plate.

Washington (10-1, 4-0 in the FAC) travels to take on Miami Trace (7-3, 3-1 in the FAC) on Monday, April 17 at 5 p.m.

Jackson (9-3, 2-1 in the FAC) travels to Chillicothe (7-4, 2-2 in the FAC) on Monday, April 17 at 5 p.m.
