WEST UNION — The Washington Lady Lions wrestling team took three wrestlers to the Lady Dragon tournament at West Union on Sunday, Feb. 5.

“We could only take three because with our full schedule at the beginning of the year, and the addition of the Frontier Athletic Conference girls league championship, we had to rest a few this weekend,” Lady Lion head coach Wes Gibbs said.

Lyndyn Gibbs won the 120-pound weight class with three pins and a win by forfeit. Her record on the season is 29-2 with 27 pins.

Brooklyn Wade won the 235-pound weight class, all by pin.

According to Gibbs, Wade defeated the number eight ranked girl in the state in the first period with a great takedown and a nice pinning combination.

Gibbs spoke about the season thus far.

“This year has by far exceeded our team goals. We have two girls with over 20 wins for the first time. We have had two high school champions in a tournament for the first time and six girls have double digit wins. This is our second year, and we are beating teams that have ten or twelve girls every week and we only have six or seven. “

The Lady Lions will wrestle on Saturday in the very first FAC Girls Championship at Hillsboro High School at 9:30 a.m.
